The final common pathway.

چکیده
Cardiogenic shock remains the final common pathway to death in a substantial number of patients with acute myocardial infarction. We have learned a great deal about this syndrome which at its bottom line is characterized by a state of severe tissue hypoperfusion. Much of what we know has come from single centre observational experiences, from multicentre registries, from subsets of patients in randomized trials of acute myocardial infarction therapy, and now from one specific trial of cardiogenic shock. Data from these sources have advantages as well as disadvantages. A prominent problem has been patient selection. For some of these trials patients with profound shock have been excluded which makes interpretation difficult. This issue of patient selection is perhaps best illustrated by the quote from Galen . ‘all who drink of this remedy recover in a short time, except those whom it does not help, who all die. Therefore, it is obvious that it fails only in incurable cases’. Populationbased data such as that from the TRACE Registry overcome some of the aforementioned disadvantages, although not all of them. We have learned about definition, pathophysiology, epidemiology, clinical setting and outcome.

Investigating the mRNA expression levels of Hippo pathway in adenoma polyps
Background Neoplastic adenomatous polyps generating from the epithelial cells are considered benign tumors. Adenomatous polyps are common in western countries and it can take seven to 10 or more years for an adenoma to evolve into cancer. The Hippo signaling pathway, also known as the Salvador-Warts-Hippo (SWH) pathway, is a signaling pathway that controls organ size in animals through the r...
متن کاملThe Role of Mammalian Target of Rapamycine Signaling Pathway in Central Nervous System Cancers: A Review
Mammalian mechanistic target of rapamycine (mTOR) is a conserved serine/threonine kinase in the cellular PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway. This pathway is modified by cellular alterations such as level of energy, growth factors, stresses, as well as the increased environmental level of cancerous cytokines. In general, increase of this kinase protein function is seen in various types of cancers, ...
متن کاملApoptosis: from Signalling Pathways to Therapeutic Tools
Apoptosis or programmed cell death is a gene regulated phenomenon which is important in both physiological and pathological conditions. It is characterized by distinct morphological features including chromatin condensation, cell and nuclear shrinkage, membrane blebbing and oligonucleosomal DNA fragmentation. Although, two major apoptotic pathways including 1) the death receptor (extrinsic) and...
متن کاملStudy on the possible similar mechanism of ultra low dose-induced hyperalgesia and development of tolerance to analgesia in male rats: an study based on the role of Gs signaling pathway
Introduction: Ultra low dose (ULD) morphine induces hyperalgesia which is mediated by excitatory Gscoupled opioid receptors. This study was designed to investigate the development of tolerance to hyperalgesic effect of morphine. Also we attempt to seek possible similarity, in view of Gs proteins, between hyperalgesic effect of ULD and hyperalgesic effect after tolerance to HD. Method: Male ...
متن کاملPsychotomimetic effects of drugs--a common pathway to schizophrenia?
Researchers have long been interested in identifying a final, common pathway for psychosis. The existence of such a pathway is implied by the fact that various drug intoxications, schizophrenia and bipolar disorders, psychotic depression, severe sensory deprivation, and Alzheimer’s disease can all cause similar psychotic phenomena. Fueling the interest in finding a common pathway is the possibi...
